A wheat beer called: Weihenstphaner Vitus.

citrusy. Palate of banana, clove and sweet
fermented fruit. Fruity bubblegum, big spicy flavours.
Medium bodied with a creamy texture. Full and
warming. Lively carbonation and a long finish."

Naughty Nellie

The name is what attracted me to this west coast ale. “Naughty Nellie” was my choice of beverage for the night. And it was very enjoyable.  A clear, pale straw yellow coloured, with a one finger off-white head that quickly settles into a thin lasting ring. Spots of lacing left behind.

This Seattle ale, brewed by Pike Brewing Company had a slight earthy aroma with a light fruit and faint spice smell.  It was kind of bland in the nose with hints of apple, grass and citrus.

A medium bodied crisp hop bite up front that lingers over the sweeter notes and bready yeast into a slightly dry finish. Well balanced, refreshing and easy to drink.

I will defiantly be enjoying this one again.

Everyone knows that red wine improves with age.  But beer?  Well, there's a growing trend in the beer world of experimenting with aged beer.  I just read recently about a "vertical tasting" over at a Vancouver Island brewery of three years of a particular beer!

Here is an interesting story our member, Ronald, found on this crazy new phenomenon.

Very, very old beer!

In November (2011), a couple of us visited the St. Thomas Brewery Bar at the magnificent Augustine Hotel in Prague.  Once the cellar of a still existing monastery which brewed its beer here since 1352, this room has been transformed into a very cool bar, complete with stalactites, arches, and traces of the original stonework and flooring.  The monastery's beer, which was brewed there from 1352 to 1952, is back again.   The Augustine, now own the recipe and serve it EXCLUSIVELY here in this bar.

Known as Svaty Tomas Tmave (St Thomas) beer. In addition to this magnificent piece of history in a glass, the hotel's microbrewery produces seasonal beers, also served at the St. Thomas Brewery Bar.

The Western Beer Club was founded in 2011.  Our members span the western half of the USA and Canada.  And we are dedicated to enhancing our members' enjoyment of this ancient and sacred beverage.
